He is still fairly chirpy and did wee this morning, but has not weed in over 8 hours.

He is still breastfeeding, although sometimes doesn't want to. He does take sips of water, but also sometimes doesn't want to.

The diarrhoea started just over an hour ago and he has had 3 bowel movements. Last night he was vomiting about every 15 minutes for some hours. Today he has only vomited about 4 times

MT, I read about BRAT in the chapter you posted about rotavirus, but there is no way he will take any food right now other than breastmilk, if that.

Is there anything else I should be doing or anything to be looking out for?

No, so long as he WILL drink at odd times, and take breastmilk, and so long as he's happy, and chirpy, then his body will manage. His body has better things to do than eat food. :D

OK. Thank you for the reassurance. :D

OK

Hillel is still vomitting on and off and still has the odd diarrhoea. But still playing and happy, apart from the odd whine.

This morning he vomitted up a straw coloured liquid. Is this something I should be worried about?

How old is he? do you have any vitamin C, apple cider vinegar and baking soda? If not get some.

What you do is crush 500mgs of Vit C, add about two tablespoons of ACV... mix, then add about the same (2 tablespoons) in clean water, then add about 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda... it'll froth lots but he must drink it when it is frothing...He will either gag and vommit or it may ignite the other end... or it could just settle him right down. Any of those outcomes will be good. If he has nausea it will make it better and it will neutralise and detox the system.

The Vit C should probably be one that is sweet or otherwise a toddler will turn their nose up at it.

He is 17 months. I hve all of those things - well, vit C powder.

Can I add honey or something? To make it sweeter?

Right now I am quite nervous of inducing vomiting or diarrhoea, he does both at least 3 times a day and it is over a week now. Poor thing was vomitting horribly again last night.

In between he is just fine, running around doing his usual business. Somestimes he does just cry for no apparant reason, and I wonder if he has stomach cramps.

I have had tummy something now while he is sick with fever and general weakness and cramps, but no vomit/diarrhoea - and it was totally over in 3 days.

Anyway, I am sure he will be fine, no more straw coloured vomit and he does mostly seem to be himself.

It shouldn't "induce" anything... just gave that warning so that you can see that is not a bad thing.. ie this is just the bodies way of getting rid of what it needs to. Good one to administer even when the bug has abated... your call... we live by that remedy in my house...

Get a bit sick of using the mortar and pestle to crush the Vit C but it always knocks it right out eh!

Whenever we were down with vomiting or diarrhoea, my mom used to give us loads of fresh lime juice with a dash of salt and sugar. Very simple recipe but it used to work all the time.

Hope your LO is feeling better now.

I whimped out on the vit C with Hillel. I was worried about more diarrhoea :o But I do appreciate you taking the time to share your advice Magical1

But he is better and has not vomited/had diarrhoea for almost 48 hours. I am terribly grateful that he still breastfeeds, as that has really kept him hydrated, comfortable and me calm.

Well, I've just tried Magical's "volcano" remedy on DD. She had only vomited twice and then I tried it. She vomited about 5mins after it (was surprised she actually drank it, but did no worries). Has been fine since (about 1.5hrs now). Has just wanted something to eat so have just zipped down to the shops and stocked up on some bananas, pineapple and strawberries. She's just had half a banana and a couple of tablespoons of yoghurt so we'll see how that goes before moving on!

Nirvana, your lime remedy makes me laugh. When I was about 14 my family travelled around Malaysia (we stayed with some family friends who moved back to Malaysia after a few years of living in NZ). They took us to one of the local night markets and we bought some plastic bags filled with lime juice (tied up and had a little straw poking out the top). Well, unknown to me, there was a "powdery" stuff in the bottom and my straw got into it, I sucked it right up and realised it was salt (probably about a couple of teaspoons worth) - well, 5mins later I was running for one of the disgusting large open drains puking my guts out lol.

CLAY, as in calcium bentonite is really good and safe for all stomach upsets:)

I had heard about the healing properties of clay before but only recently tried it on us internally.
Good for all sorts of things and I love that I can say that "I eat dirt":giggle:
