I'm just wondering if anyone knows of this book at all and if it is any good. Here's a link http://www.amazon.co.uk/Natural-Health-Kids-Child-Start/dp/0718146387
It's on sale at Paper Plus at the moment for only $9.99 so given that it's nice and cheap I'm thinking of getting it. I'm not expecting it to be a bible, but thought it might be OK for a start?
Any thoughts?
Hi ZGT - have not seen this book before, so can't really help there. But I can recommend a book called "Alternative Cures", by Bill Gottlieb. "In this unique book, 300 of Americas best alternative-oriented M.D's, herbalists, nutritionists, naturopaths, homeopaths and other holistic healers reveal their most effective natural remedies for 160 everyday and serious health problems"
I have consulted this book numerous times in relation to minor illnesses with the kids. I like it because there are a few different options (including standard medical practices) that you can use to help them, so you can choose something that feels right for you or them. I recently used the herbal cocktail (with some minor adjustments) on the girls when they were getting flu like symptoms - high fever, aches etc and they both recovered in less then 24 hours. Although it did take a bit of bribery to get them to drink it all. Not that it tasted that bad !

I haven't heard of it, but for that price I would probably grab it. Perhaps look at a few illnesses that you might need to deal with (ear infections or flu) and see if the remedies he suggests resonate with you. Some books may look good but if the ingredients or herbs are not readily available here then it may not be the right book.

As far as starts go.. ANY start is a good one. I'd say don't ask anyone if it is good or not... you can make up your own mind on that one. Just buy it.
I have some amazing books that I read before bed every night.. just pick them up and see where they fall half the time. What I know is that it will take a library of books before I start to learn what I need to.
Read that one and then go back to the book shop and see where the gaps are in what the last one left.
No one can ever spend too much on books!

I agree with the others. it pays to have some lousy books on parenting as well. Scrawl in the margins. Know why books are tacky and why they are good.
I'm just going through a book on breastfeeding (http://www.thefoodoflove.org/), which overall is a very good book..., and writing into it, why which bits are stupid.... If I loan it out, that will be in it. it would definitely be THE breastfeeding book to start with:
I write in my books, so that I know where the rubbish is, and don't have to re-read the whole thing to find it....

I saw this book today. I think it does have something to offer (eg I looked up measles and the first offering was the importance of Vit A) and a lot of mentions for Vit C. I didn't buy it because I have so many and I felt it was a little light on info on where I'm currently at. But a good starting book I think.
