Into approx 500ml of apple cider vinegar, blend about 33 cloves of garlic.
Add about 4 tablespoons of honey and 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper.
It only takes a few seconds of blending so don't overdo it.
Adults 3 tablespoons a day in water children about half that ammount.
This mixture is designed so that 1 tablespoon of the vinegar has at least one whole clove of garlic in it.
The mixture will keep in the fridge for around a year, i dont bother filtering it until i use it.

Thanks for this....can one use at the first sign of illness, even if it may not be the flu?? I would think it may be effective for other viral illnesses no?
also when blending the garlic in there should you crush them, mince them, puree them??

Yes, this is one I've done, but mine also had sea salt in it. The kids called it "Rocket Fuel".
Mine is similar - I used it on my girls when they were coming down with a flu. I used freshly squeezed lemon juice (and boiled water), manuka honey, pinch of cayenne, crushed garlic and ginger. Their fevers only lasted about 6 hours, and they were both feeling better in 24 hours. I like to think it was the 'cocktail' that helped.

If i needed the mixture now i would blend a lot more and not even bother to filter out the blended garlic.
leaving it for a few weeks should make a full extraction so i would filter it only then.
i just slice the garlic cloves first then blend for around 5 seconds.
Blending, crushing will help the vinegar to extract the goodness out of the garlic more quickly.

How do you filter it?

Through muslin; a tea strainer, or a funnel with close mesh insert.

I use that cocktail too... now just imagine the day when a Dr tells you to do that... Is it because it is untested, double blind, placebo hoo haa or do they know that the lazy buggers probably wouldn't follow the instructions?

No they won't tell you do that - they will just stick it in a vile and inject it in your arm ! :LMAO:

It's funny isn't it when you get into home remedies you actually really love it when they are slightly on the uncomfortable side!

Yes indeed, i have like a love hate relationship with cayenne pepper drinks, its like pain and pleasure at the same time LOL.
I think cayenne can produce brain endorphins so maybe that has something to do with it.

I just made my first batch of this "rocket fuel". Boy it took forever to peel and slice 33 cloves of garlic! I'm hoping we don't need to use it, but I feel better that it's there and I have yet 1 more thing to add to my arsenal against illness!

Why not just shove them in a blender?

The whole family came down with a nasty bug (not H1N1 I don't think...just a nasty cold) and DH and I started taking this "rocket fuel" as I have come to call it. Boy does it burn going down!
I can't say I have noticed a huge effect though. I was home sick for work for 2 days...back at work today but still feel pretty crappy. I assume I can safely take more than 3 tbs/day, but would this help??? I also assume this shoudl be good for any viral illness not just the flu right??

Every one of us is a unique walking laboratory, so what works well for one, might explode another.
for some it might be one thing; others a combination of two or more.
I only learned what helped me by trial and error. :giggle:
unfortunately, there's no guide book that goes with getting back to basics... :alien:

My daughter threw up when we gave her this (she's 18 yrs old). I tried one tbsp and my stomach had a battle going on for awhile.

That actually happened to me one of the times I took it too. I had an empty stomach at the time so won't be doing that again.

I must admit i had heartburn after taking 1 tablespoon in a glass of water when i tested it.
Next time if i need it i'll start at just 1 teaspoon.

I only use a teaspoon of mine...
Can I have a version of this for an 18 month old. Or an alternative route (soles of feet?)

Wouldn't give it to an 18 month old. Would make sure they got enough vitamin D and K though.
