The importance of influence of microorganisms on human health has been recognized for years.Being an article originally in Russian, perhaps this is common knowledge in Russia? I know that GAPS book was written by a Russian doctor.

Yet gut bacterial community has a collective metabolic activity equal to a virtual organ, and the interplay between food, host cells and microbes is indispensable for shaping both innate and adaptive immunity.Wow, I wonder how long before this is common knowledge in the peds/GP's office?

it's never been understood by GP's and peds, and most still don't.

If you look at my thread on Kefir, you will see in the Tamysh article, that Russians have understood the value of kefir and other probiotics, for a long time.

There are heaps of russian articles about using probiotics for bronchial infections, and a raft of other disorders, that western doctors go into with the antibiotic hammer.
