a vegetable juicer has an integral place in this house, and the regular juicing is 5 carrots, 3 stalks of beetroot and 3 celery stalks.
the celery leaves are picked off, and go with parsley and chives into all sorts of things.
the beetroot and celery cellulose remains, go to the chooks but the carrots, which are organic, do not.
So this is what I do with the carrots is
250 grams of cottage cheese
8 tbsps of flaxseed oil. Mash them together.
Add in the carrot pulp. I don't bother to remove the bits. mash well with a fork.
Add in as much parsley, chives, celery leaves to make it as green flecked as you wish.
Take out half for my husband, and in the other half add 2 very heaped teaspoons of tomato puree, which I make myself from italian tomatoes.
So I have vegetable butter, but what to put it on?
Buckwheat pancakes, and as this is the only grain I can eat now, I love them.
My buckwheat pancakes are made with 3 eggs, half a pint of milk, half a tsp salt, beaten, and enough buckwheat flour to make a mix which is like thick cream.
I cook this on a moderate cast iron pan, using 3/4 a soup ladle for each one, and swirling the mix right out to the edges. When the surface has dried I run a knife around the edges, insert a long fish slice under them, and flip them over and cook the other side until slightly speckly and tanned.
Spread carrot butter on half, roll up. eat with cabbage salad, and that's heaven on legs.

Mmmm, sounds good!
We ventured into buckwheat pancakes the other day. I like the idea of making a spread like that for them rather than always lemon juice with a little sugar!
I often do a carrot, beetroot and apple combo which is quite nice.

I made my very first green smoothie yesterday using parsley and apple with a hint of ginger. It was yummy for me but DH and DD didn't like it. I made it in my regular blender.
Do you guys have any recommendation for a juicer? I want to buy one soon to make vegetable juice etc. ATM I have a citrus juicer and I want to upgrade to a good one.
Some use a Vitamix blender and others use those regular juicers. I am not sure which one to go for.

I have the same Breville one Magical linked to. Nice and grunty and minimal wastage. I did have a Zip but it didn't juice as well (smaller motor) and also blew up...

I love my Oscar juicer. It's easy to use and clean, and the pulp comes out nice and dry which means more juice and less waste. Well, actually I feed the leftover pulp to the dogs so it doesn't get wasted, but you know what I mean. It also does nut butters and has attachments so you can make pasta noodles etc. Did I mention I love the thing :D
Oh and BTW I'm a woman, not a guy ;)

I am jealous you have an Oscar... I really want one!!
It is based on the Norwalk one eh for about a 1/4 of the price? It keeps enzyme activity really high.

Sounds like you need to put in on your Christmas list Magical1.
The Compact juicer is another option if the Oscar is too pricey.
I'm going to start juicing again now that we are starting to get some warmer days. Tomorrow will be apple, carrot, celery and ginger - yum!

I also have a breville and I love it. It's not too much of a pain to clean and it pretty much handles all veggies I have tried. It was a bit pricey, but check on ebay, although I don't know about shipping of electical goods

I used to have the one Magical has, but tossed it, because the pitch of the engine ate up my brain every time I used it. I downgraded to the one below, which had a sound that my cranial matter can handle without cremation.

So, feel free to laugh at my question, but I'm having a language difficulty. When you say "3 stalks of beetroot" is that the dark red (underground) part of the beet, or the leafy greens (aboveground) part of the beet plant?

I have a compact juicer somewhere. the husband tidied it up one day I think when the building inspectors were due round. I should probably find it as it is bound to be better for me than coffee & I am sure the kids would appreciate some juices. I also managed to lose the instructions somewhere along the way.

I was looking in the fridge feeling hungry and thinkng I must clean it, and I must juice some carrots........ maybe I could get of my butt and clean the fridge with some decent juice on board instead of coffee :)

Thank you. :D
