insidevaccines is re doing some pages. We've decided to add book reviews of vaccine related books.
To start with I need reviews of any books that help parents decide whether or not to vaccinate.
I'm going to have two basic categories:
books that recommend various selective or delayed vaccination schedules (Cave, Sears for example)
and books that recommend not vaccinating at all (although they don't necessarily make that statement, they just don't offer a schedule and the overall thrust of the book is anti-vaccine).
I'm just hoping that one or two of you may actually own a relevant book and be willing to create a two or three paragraph review.
Reviews will be anonymous. We'll edit for grammar, punctuation and coherence, but we'll try not to mess with the content and tone.
Thanks in advance.

While I've got most of the books you mentioned, I don't think I'm 'fit' to do a review of that type of book, since it should be done by a normal parent.
but I'm just about finished reading Bodily Matters which is so interesting to me, as I have so many of the documents she used to write the book, so I know what she missed out :giggle: and naturally, one can see why she stuck to only talking about the "people" who were behind the anti-vaccination movement, though she was sympathetic to them, and avoided the provaccine diatribes of the likes of Offit.
But she would have to contain herself to that orbit, for were she to discuss the huge numbers of doctors who supported the anti-vaccination cause, and whose open support gave the anti-vaccination movement so much of it's backbone, she might have lost her job.
Of course, she could not possible mention, either, that the GMC was set up after the Royal Commission, specifically in order to weed OUT from the ranks of the medical profession those doctors fell enough to criticise such a noble tradition as Jennerism.
I've very much enjoyed her book in one respect.
She points out that the reform of the prison system, owes much to the subsequent campaigning by Quakers, and other christians who were imprisssoneed en masse for refusing to vaccinate, and experienced first hand the worst excesses of the system.
Ironic then, that it was anti-vaccinators who lead the charge to improve prison conditions. Not that paragon of virtue, the Jenner defenders  .
Of course, doctors who supported anti-vaccination were run out of business and otherwise completely harrassed.
Nothing surprises me, and everything that happens today, to doctors who support those who don't want to vaccinate is as old as the tactics employed from 1800 onwards....

That does sound like an interesting book. Perhaps insidevaccines can do a blog on the topic, eventually.
Yes, I was hoping for "regular" parents take on some books.

I have Aviva Jill Romm's book, Sears book. Funny, I remember getting The Sears book as I thought it would be more up to date on studies. And ended up going through with a highlighter and highlighting all the errors in his information on the vaccines themselves. A lot of the text is highlighted in yellow :giggle: and of course JALP
I'll pm you the reviews (hopefully later today)

I have the Vaccine Safety Manual by Neil Miller and What the doc may not tell you about childhood vaccinations by Stephanie Cave. The latter is selective/delayed-favoring schedule and Neil Miller's book is antivax.
I can write a few lines on these two books and send it across if you are interested. :)

Excellent. You are the first to offer reviews of these books. Don't feel rushed and don't worry about proofreading, I can take care of that.
Thanks.

Yes, I've heard of it too. A review would be an excellent addition to the collection.
I'd just like to point out that some people, who happen to be older than that 'ol lady you are referring to, don't like to be referred to as old. Middle aged is okay :)

Wasn't there another one that went on about from one prick to another? Maybe they'll write a third, called everlasting pricks? Viagra anyone?

What is this prick business anyway? Now that we live in a global economy, how about a global lingo?
One country says vaccinations, another says jabs and a third, oh my, talks about pricks. We know where the folks with the strange minds hang out!

Whoops!
Back to the topic, anyone want to review Pricks I, Pricks II or Pricks III (when it emerges from the throes of research and composition)?
All reviews will be anonymous and you can contact me via PM to let me know what you want to work on :D
