Hey,

This is a kind of blog. I hope u dont mind but I wanted to share my thoughts on sickness during the winter. The winters of 2007 & 2008 were quite bad for me and my family , we (especially me) got so sick. Last year I had 2 colds, a UTI and the flu in August. This year i'm glad to say that sickness has hardly touched us. We had flu like simptoms in June that lasted for about 4 days but that was it. I was determined that I was not going to get so sick this winter. I'm hoping winter is coming to an end quite soon. At the end of last winter we recieved free insulation on and under our house which has helped sooooo much. I started taking sodium ascorbate, vitamin A&D and also a zinc suppliment. I stopped going to the local playgroup (a place full of germs) which gave me a bit more time to concentrate on good family meals (Although dont get me wrong - I still occasionally buy fishfingers;)) my youngest is 4 now so their immune systems are becoming a bit stronger. And finally I think that I have taken control of life a bit more and am a much less stressed out person. Oh and we wash our hands a wee bit more, b4 dinner ect.

In conclusion it looks like a warm house, good food, low stress levels hygine ect virtually eliminates sickness. I dont think that I needed to tell anyone here that but I just just wanted to share. I'm quite pleased with myself.

Thanks for listening, here's to felling OK. :)

Kindest Regards

Justine

Well done :) It is a great feeling to know that you can be in control of your own and your families health.

Both my girls got the flu this winter, and it is the first time I have had the confidence not to consult a doctor, or give them paracetamol. I used one of the 'cocktails' suggested here, kept a close eye on what they were eating - putting garlic and ginger in just about everything:giggle:. Kept up their fluids, vit c etc. It felt like such an a achievement, when a day later they were up and about after them both being quite unwell. I too am looking even closer at their daily dietary intake, with the hope that I can prevent any further illnesses this winter.

You have every right to be pleased with yourself :)

I KNOW THE FEELING (thats me screaming in a throw the shackles kind of way)

My son had a staph infection around his ear. IN the end I gave abs. It went. His breath started stinking, he had bad poo, the infection came back. So I squared my shoulders and went in fighting. H2O2, manuka honey, the juicer, H202 gargles, good food, heaps of vit c, hand washing etc etc, and now the last scabs are finally healing. I am so glad this time I let him do it on his own. He is so much better and stronger for the experience and so am I. I had him sent home from playgroup one day (still dont know why I take him, apart from he begged to go) becuase of his "highly contagious" ear infection that nobody else caught despite him having it since June. Had people ask me if he was antibiotics and look at me weird when I said, no he is on h2o2, honey and good food. But you know what. We won. Feels GREAT.

So Justine I know exactly what you mean. We have all got sniffles at the moment. Infact some children have been flown off with the same thing for IV drugs etc. We are a bit snotty and thats it. Again vit c, plenty of fresh air, keeping warm, lots of rest, the good old juicer (love ya Hilary) and NO pamol ever ever ever.

Thats the long winded way of saying GO YOU. Those "small" achievements are really huge aye.

I spend my time trying not to get ill and spend anything left on trying to prevent my kids and husbands illness too. The thing I have learnt is that I can't avoid the occassional cold or stomach bug... nor can my kids. The differernce I have now as opposed to when I used GPs is that we can clear these things up in a matter of a day or two as opposed to weeks (or in one case months). With I might add heaps of work! it's not easy sometimes remembering to administer things every hour, making soups, compresses, juicing etc. I attack from ALL angles.

When I used to get a cold I would end up with a strep infection or a chest infection. Now I can feel the virus losing hold and I come out the other end feeling great. I get sick once a year now as opposed to six-eight times. Kids are the same... my little guy still has a sweet tooth (despite best efforts) so he gets hit much harder. He is a work in progress

All anyone has to do is take that first leap of faith that you don't have to resort to drugs... once you have done it that first time then you are well on the way to empowering you and your family with knowledge and good health. As I said it's a full time job and one I'm afraid many are too busy and too lazy to undertake. Doctors rely on this human weakness to pedel their wares. Mask the symptoms and then they have done their job. You as the patient don't actually have to do very much but like anything in life you get very little in return.
