Numerous polio victims have protested against the damaging treatment they received, and in the early 1990s, a group began to wage a battle for compensation. The initial aim was passage of legislation that recognized the government's responsibility toward people who suffered as a result of the lack of proper sanitary conditions in the early years of the state, the absence of a proper immunization policy, and unsuitable treatment. The law that was eventually passed in 2007 does not mention the government's responsibility, but guarantees financial compensation. The law does not cover polio victims who were born in Israel before 1948 or those who contracted the disease before arriving here.

I don't get the issue with the government not providing vaccines as they were pointless anyway, well the Salk one was, and that was the one that was available.

But is seems people are being compensated for poor medical management of polio 60 years ago. Although the goverment is not to blaime of course. Reading this whole article is very disturbing. VERY disturbing.

I wonder if other groups in other countries have put together such lawsuits?
