A mother who is planning legal action against a pharmaceutical giant – claiming her daughter was left partially paralysed after having an anti-cancer vaccine – has been told the teenager is to be put on the social services ‘at-risk’ register.

Cheryl Cave says allegations that she is abusing her 13-year-old daughter Ashleigh are an attempt to ‘shut her up’ as she is demanding an investigation into the safety of a drug used to protect girls against the HPV virus that causes cervical cancer.

Ashleigh collapsed shortly after being given the jab at school and has spent nearly a year in hospital.

Ashleigh Cave, picture with mum Sheryl, was left paralysed from the waist down after taking a cervical cancer drug

Ms Cave, 38, is now consulting lawyers about taking action against pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline and wants a full investigation into the safety of the drug Cervarix. She is being supported by lawyer Peter Todd, who is launching a multi-million-pound action on behalf of about ten teenage girls in the UK, including Ashleigh.

Ashleigh, from Liverpool, has been unable to walk unaided since having the jab last October and is an in-patient at Liverpool’s Alder Hey hospital. Tests have failed to find anything physically wrong. Doctors say Ashleigh is suffering from ‘learned illness’ behaviour and have called in social services.

A report from Sefton Council accuses Ms Cave of fabricating Ashleigh’s illness and says: ‘Children’s Services recommend that Ashleigh becomes subject to a Child Protection Plan under the criteria of emotional harm.’

But Ms Cave says it is nothing more than an attempt to keep her quiet and is desperate to warn other parents about the vaccine.

She said: ‘At first, they tried to tell us Ashleigh was imagining it. They even suggested I may have Munchausen’s syndrome by proxy. They have now told me Ashleigh is to be placed on the at-risk register, and that I am abusing her mentally. I refuse to let their threats silence us.’

Ms Cave believes her daughter may have been poisoned by aluminium in the drug.

The HPV school vaccination programme followed clinical trials in 2005 on more than 18,000 women under the age of 26.

Last night, both GlaxoSmithKline and the Department of Health said there was no evidence that the vaccine carried any long-term side effects.

No one was available at Sefton Council to comment on the case.

For years now, when anyone is seriously adamant about continuing the claim their child has a vaccine reaction, one of the things that has happened, has been a "psychological assessment".

This is a very powerful reason to say "no", because by not vaccinating your child, you can't be accused of MBP. After all, nothing can then happen that they can't figure out.

editted to add.

Years ago, a woman contacted me about their child who was incontinent, and hadn't spoken since a couple of vaccine at 15 months. She had been at school for a year, with attendant problems, naturally, and the parents were looking for help outside the square. I sent them to a doctor who used both conventional and "other" options, and they went just after school broke up for Christmas holidays.

He did thorough testing, read the school psych assessments, and because he had no conventional options, use the "other" options.

Within a week, these parents had a "new" child, and the doctor worked with them to try to solve some of the new problems which came up once the child could "say" what was going on in her head, during the time she was basically "locked" inside.

The next school term, the school did a new evaluation on the child, and because of the remarkable improvement in the child, decided to all in CYPS, on the basis that the only possible reason for the previous problems, in their opinion, was parental child abuse.

The parents went underground. I've never heard from them again, and the doctor concerned was shattered. There was no way, in his mind, that this was either abuse or munchausens.

This is an incredibly serious situation, and one which is very hard to advise parents on.

After all, if this girl was "cured" with alternative medicine, what then would the authorities say?

This reminds me of the movie Changeling starring Angelina Jolie and directed by Clint Eastwood. It's a true life story of a mother who's son goes missing. The LAPD claim to have found him but the mother realizes they are wrong and that boy is not her son. The lengths they go on to claim that the mother is psychologically ill and the LAPD are right is painful.

The mother struggles and cries for help because even though she wants to help this boy who is not her own son, she cannot bring herself to love this child as her true son. She is put up in a mental asylum. But things change and she fights back. This movie is based on the Wineville chicken coop murders.

Very moving story about a mother's anguish and struggle. Very much like Ashleigh Cave's mother.

That's New Zealand for you. not everything is "green and clean" in this place. And actually, the countryside isn't either, because most of the food producers believe that agrichemicals and artificial fertilizers are the key.

Everyone drives through the area I live in, and think it's the breadbasket of the country. No, it's the agrichem basket of the country. All the farmers in our area are doing is pumping clay up with chemicals. And if people visiting us don't believe me, I take them and show them MY soil in MY garden, and ask them when's the last time they actually saw topsoil in the commercial areas around us...
