It's stupid, for so many reasons, but honestly, I'd rather a doctor who's up-front about the issue and lets me know that they can't (won't) work with me. Sort of like obstetricians who are really up-front about their C-section rates, who tell you up-front they think unmedicated birth is pointless, stuff like that. Better to know what you're dealing with BEFORE you get to a point when you need help.

I can't read the comments section, I'm sure it's horrible.

I beg your pardon... who fires who? :alien:

Who is employed by who?? :alien::alien:

And why in the world would a parent want to be 'employed' by a doctor in the first place??? :giggle:

Seriously. Is it really that dark in the US health system people can't survive without kind of an employment contract with a medic?

Merck banner busily brainwashing at the top of the screen for childhood vaccines.

Look at how many children died in the Victorian era. 1/3 of the deaths were from children who were under the age of 5.

That sort of statement grots me. Because of course they lived so healthily then as well. No one threw their bedpans out on to the streets, there were no open sewers etc....... for goodness sake, you cant even compare then and now.

Here are a couple of graphs on diphtheria. Note the extreme downward trend before the vaccine.

I'm in the US and *I've* wondered why the situation is what it is. Why do many pediatricians feel unable, or are just unwilling, to have unvaccinated patients? Some won't accept any deviation from the CDC schedule at all.

We are a litigious nation, and I think the threat of lawsuits, and the high cost of malpractice insurance, probably do influence doctors' behavior to some extent, but it still seems so extreme. I've only run across two other possible explanations, but both are, well, weird. I've read that some doctors feel that vaccination is SO important that any parent that doesn't agree is, basically, an :alien: and they don't have any common ground to work with the parent. But wouldn't they then feel like their only job is to vaccinate kids? Surely they went to med school for more than that?

The other possibility is uglier, that having parents that say "Yes, Doctor" to everything is what they require, that it's a power trip/ego issue, but while I've met a few doctors that skewed that way, I wouldn't have thought it was most. But my personal best guess is that most pediatricians would not accept my kids as patients--I haven't done a survey, but I spent time asking around to find someone I wouldn't have to fight with.

I don't know if this topic is as polarizing in other nations as it is in the US, in most circles in the US, it's shocking and appalling to say that you don't vaccinate at all (and only slightly better to say that you skip some, unless it's chicken pox).

Medical mentality is pretty much universal and very well understood.

I was more questioning parents mentality - why needing a doctor at all if clearly they are not interested in anything other than vaccinating? Is this insurance/employment/legal issue that is different and unique to the US to a point? I don't have a doctor. Neither a pediatrician, nor a GP, nor an anything. Havent had one for probably over 10 years now, and even before then (another country, another system) havent had anyone consistent, although used a few randomly. Nobody cares if I do or don't. Whenever I have to fill out a form that says 'your/your childs doctors details' - I just write N/A and thats it, no further questions. The only pediatric nurse (they deal with healthy kids in our system) we have met originally, I have fired after my second visit as she clearly demonstrated that she is not aware of any difference between human milk and dairy milk, that was enough for me to figure I do not need her services. As in, I fired her, not the other way round. :D Not that she cared at all :).
