I've started looking into grain mills and I would really like to have one for making my own fresh flour.
The Family Grain Mill Modular System (http://http://www.everythingkitchens.com/fgm.html)

Does anyone own this one, or different one?

Advice, tips?

no, but I've been thinking about getting a grain mill. So I'm really curious what others say too. :)

I went to a demonstration on how to make 100 % wholewheat bread. The woman used a coffee grinder to make her flour and also to grind various seeds that she included in the bread making process. She admitted that she could only do a small amount at a time. But worth a try I thought. :)

If you like I can send you the workshop notes. Her name is was Karin Puttner. Just mail me with you address.

My mills are 30 years old. I have a hand SAMAP and a motorised SAMAP.

The hand one does finer flour than the electric one.

We've got a kornmuhle hand grinder I got off trademe for something wild like $10. We don't eat wheat so I use it for buckwheat for the kids pancakes in the morning. If I was to be eating wheat, I would probably get a hand mill. I know the electric ones are easier but from grinding my own coffee, that the coffee ground by hand taste way nicer than electrically ground coffee.

MT - that mill looks fantastic. Swoon. I'll have to see how I can budget that in some way.....

MT, that mill looks fantastic. Swoon. I'll have to start counting pennies and figure out how to save up for that at some point.

Buying second hand is the cheapest. I still use the hand one sometimes. I used to use it all the time until I got pregnant, and couldn't get around the back of the swing. Then my aunt funded an electric one, which we've had for a very long time now...
