OK I've been doing alot of reading and research over the last year about vaccinations and the diseases, I know what the diseases can cause etc but can not for the life of me find anywhere how many people in australia contracted specific diseases...
For instance did anyone contract polio?
What %age of australian's got whooping cough? tetanus? etc
Does anyone have any links or info on this? Would help with explaining to people my choices if I could say well actually there were only ** reported cases last year and those people were vaccinated against it (that would be ideal lol)
Any help would be fantastic!!!

Try this, if you are up for a bit of a read ;) to find what it is your looking for
Communicable Diseases Intelligence, Volume 26, Issue number 2 - June 2002 http://www.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/Content/cdi2602-1
This may be easier, just select what you are searching for and it will give you the notification statistics. I have more information on death statistics if that is what you are searching for rather than notifications. Hope that helps. :)
Australia's National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS)

Fantastic!!! I'm excited now!!!
Can someone help me....I'm after the DEATHS from specific VPD's. I've checked out the ABS, but it's very generalised and I can't seem to 'break it down' - maybe I'm missing something??
I'm looking for deaths directly caused by whooping cough, measles, chicken pox etc. (maybe there's a reason I can't find these reports! ;) )
Anyway, if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be very much obliged.

I have an old report at home (from the 90-s) on VPDs that included hospitalisations and deaths by disease. I will post a link when I get there (currently at work). It is not current, but will give you an idea of what it was in 'bad' times, it only went down from there!
