ETA - Ugh, that was not explained well at all! Let me try again:

I understand now that if we want people to come to Inside Vaccine, there is a better way to link.

Use the words that one would use in a search as your URL.

For instance if we are talking about chicken pox and we link to Inside Vaccines (http://insidevaccines.com/wordpress/vaccine-efficacy-how-often-do-vaccines-work/varicella), it will do nothing as far as our rating on a search engine since most likely no one is searching for the words "Inside Vaccines".

But if we link in this manner Chicken Pox (http://insidevaccines.com/wordpress/vaccine-efficacy-how-often-do-vaccines-work/varicella) it will boost us up when someone searches for "chicken pox" and thus comes to Inside Vaccines.

On the other hand, be careful how you link to sites you don't want to assist. That's when it would be best to simply copy and past the address.

Is my explanation clear? If not, someone can reword it.

Interesting! Where did you hear about this approach to linking?

I'm not sure I understand why this would make a difference.

I don't know how else to explain it. I will look for the thread where I read it and post it here. It is from another discussion board.

Will be back when I find the thread.

Okay, I get it.

So, if you like the site you are linking to then choose a relevant word or phrase and anchor the link to it.

If you dislike the site you are linking to, or don't care one way or the other, then just paste in the link.

The underlying principle is that one factor search engines consider is the number of links to a particular site or page. They also consider how often the links are clicked on and how often they are searched. So the more a term is searched and a particular link comes up, the higher it will rank in the search engines.

Right! Now let's practice it.
