Today is Day 16 since we were around a kid with chickenpox. My son started getting a few pink spots on his face. My daughter might have a couple. I'm a little mystified why he'd have more than her so far if it is chickenpox, because he is breastfed and she's weaned. And I thought spots usually started on the torso, not face. But ok. I guess I'll know tomorrow.

But I'm trying not to panic because I found a few spots on *me*. I sometimes get pimples, but to suddenly get several spots that look like my kids' at the same time as my kids...yeah right. I had chickenpox when I was 18, and it was seriously miserable. I know people can get it more than once, but I really, really was not expecting it. The case I had at 18 was not a borderline case by any means. And since then I've been around people who had chickenpox without getting it.

I am so scared. I know chickenpox is much more likely to be serious in adults. I already have anxiety issues and right I feel like puking and am shaking, I am so scared and trying to fight off a full panic attack. :cry2: Could you help me out with some info, so I don't run across horror stories from googling? I need help knowing what to do for myself, to help my body fight this. Any chance that second cases are milder than the first time around, even in adults? Would having had it before help my body fight it this time? Any encouraging stats? Any particular warning sign I should look out for in myself? Anything else I should know?

Just need some knowledgeable handholding. TIA.

Not hugely knowledgeable here but in your position, I would go for taking lots of SA & maybe some fish oil for vitamin A. Avoid sugar & hydrogenated fat & artificial sweetners etc. Make loads of chicken soup with chicken broth. Eat loads of lacto fermented veges Get out in the sun to up your vit D. All that generic immune system & health stuff. If you have CP, you have it just concentrate on your health rather than worrying about whether you have it or not. Stress is very bad for the immune system too so :chillpill: If you don't have it & you have taken all that good care of yourself, it will all be good too.

Thank you for the speedy reply. What's SA?

Already avoiding those three things. Will make a point of eating stuff made with my stock. I regularly take vit D and fish oil, and we've been eating sweet potatoes almost every day right now.

I have Traditional Foods out from the library, just got it last week. I know nothing about lacto fermented veggies but I think it has a chapter on them.

Must. relax. (irony not lost on me)

Green tea and garlic are antiviral too, right? I just drank a cup of green tea. And I eat garlic pretty much every day.

Yes both are. Use Cider Vinegar when spots get watery bits on the top. Neat on cotton, and hold cotton to each area for 5 minutes. Read the sticky thread in chickenpox section. SA is sodium ascorbate:

SA is sodium ascorbate. Garlic is anti viral. I have no idea about green tea. I can't stand the stuff so I deliberately avoid finding out how beneficial it is. I'm a caffeine & exercise addict myself. In terms of relaxing, I try to differentiate between what I can change & need to worry about vs what I can't change so is not worth worrying about. I am also reliably informed that I have no clue as I am supposedly sane - which is at times highly questionable ;)
By tradition foods out of the library, do you mean nourishing traditions?

Does ascorbic acid work too? That's what I've got on hand for vit C.

Yes, I did mean Nourishing Traditions. Sorry, my brain's barely functioning today.

I'm questioning whether this is actually chickenpox. Other viruses can result in small bumps too, right? The kids' bumps have nearly disappeared already. I've been struggling with nausea all morning, and my digestive system has pretty much cleared out the other end. Neither of those are symptomatic of chickenpox iirc. They could be due to the ascorbic acid and green tea I took last night...but I only took the usual amount, and just 1.5 c green tea made with one tea bag...it would be odd for me to be feeling this sick from them more than 12 hrs later.

I am so tired, hope this makes sense. Going to try to nap with the little guy if the kids let me. Thanks again.

You would need to ask MT but I am sure you need to cut ascorbic acid with baking soda as can be too acidic otherwise. Other viruses can result in small bumps most definitely. That is why I have a generic approach to all these things. You could be nauseous from hunger.

NT is a good book in principle but the recipes suck.

Yes, you need to use baking soda with Ascorbic acid, or it scours you out. I'm not sure on the proportions though. Our doctor used to say 1 to one, but I'm sure I read somewhere that it's something slightly more esoteric than that. But one to one would do frankly :D
