So here's my experience with a tooth abscess. Firstly, while our boys have insurance, dh and I only have partial (and it's not dental)l, so when my tooth cracked some time ago, I thought to myself to wait and see what happens and eventually get myself to the dentist. Probably not the smartest thing to do, seeing as if it cracked, there was an underlying issue.
Sunday my tooth and gum were hurting but looked ok, so I put some clove oil on it. That evening it felt odd and like I had something lodged next to it. Low and behold, in just those few hours an abscess was at the gum where the tooth meets it-yuck. It was red, black and white and almost the size of corn kernel! Faced with either going to the ER, or waiting I looked up what to do for an abscess. I saw a lot of luck homeopathic with only a few people saying they had to go to the ER. So I tried a slice of raw garlic against it for about 10 min. When I took it off and ran my finger along my gum line-it opened and out came blood, and I then I realized that about an inch long under my tooth on the gum line, was slightly swollen and if I pressed on it-blood came out of the abscess. So I emptied it out, brushed my teeth, rinsed with peroxide (which I hate), and went to bed. Monday it was much better-it was only slightly swollen around the base of the tooth and this time clear puss came out. So on the hour I used a q-tip with either clove oil or peroxide and rubbed it on. Today-it's gone, except my skin along where that 1 inch section was seems to have been torn/burned off from the garlic is what I'm assuming. The garlic burned and that section of my gum was pretty raw and sore after that.
Anyhow, no fevers. My tooth feels pretty much fine today-I can eat on it. The nerves are prob dead. I'm pretty sure I should find a dentist that has a billing option, because I'm sure that whatever they will do is going to cost an arm and a leg. Though, I could have them pull it out. Why is it cheaper to pull a tooth than repair it? I had a filling and a cap put on about 10 yrs ago on one tooth and it was about $500!
And so in ending, I was really on the road to thinking I was pretty healthy, but something must be amiss to have a tooth issue in the first place right?

If its a back tooth that cant really be seen when u smile.. then just have it pulled... much better option than repairing as that can open up a whole raft of things to go wrong (they tend to seal in infection also) if its a front one.. not sure.. cosmetically you'd probably want it fixed.

Sounds like you're doing pretty good dealing with it so far!

If you didn't have a specific trauma, I'd think that something is amiss to allow it to happen, but I'm not sure what.

The Weston Price approach would be to check fat soluble vitamins A, D, and K2, and then minerals, probably mostly calcium, phosphorus and magnesium, but seems like others (or more likely, multiple vits/mins) could be involved. But I'm not sure if that's definitely the way to go for what you're describing.

We've had good results (non-dental problems) recently with cell salts, also called tissue salts, they're part homeopathic and part nutritional. My understanding is that they help improve utilization of nutrients from the diet (or from supps in our case, since we have ongoing health stuff and use an abnormal number of supplements)--so far, it seems to be working that way, best I can tell.

Mostly they're in a lactose base, so if you're ok with that, then it's something to consider while you try to figure out the rest. We're dairy-free, but I think the protein is our biggest dairy issue, and we're tolerating the ones in lactose fine. I understand there are sucrose-based ones out there, but much harder to locate.
