My 28 month old daughter was playing with a little girl on Sunday who has developed chickenpox on the following Wednesday. I understand there is a chance my daughter could catch it, but that the spots wont appear for a couple of weeks.

My daughter has just recently weaned about a month ago, due to my supply drying up as I am 24 weeks pregnant. I find that I am now producing colostrum.

If I can get her to breastfeed again if she does develop chickenpox, will the small amount of colostrum I am producing help her get through the illness? She also has some allergies (dairy protein, dog dander, dustmite) so I wonder if she will require some more specific supplements?

She might not even get it.

Another friend of mine rang me in Auckland, as her daughter has just had chickenpox.

she developed a Strep rash afterwards from scratching, which cleared up by using a fairly strong sodium ascorbate spray onto the skin. fortunately, the doctor failed to pick up the secondary bacterial infection, or she would have been shot through with antiobiotics.

In terms of the colostrum, you have nothing to lose except a nipple. They forget how to suck with the tongue over the bottom teeth very quickly, and their teeth become pliers, so the side effects of that might be your nipple is bitten :D

Ouch! You could always express a bit of the colostrum into a container and give it that way.
