the kids cop a fever and some spots and have a ball off school at home playing monopoly and running their parents and housekeeper ragged - two paeds make housecalls and no one gets medication of any kind and the only mention of "shots" is distemper for the dog

Thanks for the quick summary. Amusing in light of the recent TV show in the U.S. where a kid managed to die in about 20 minutes from measles and the doctor injected a brother against the mother's express wishes.

My sister had the measles in um, 73 or around there. She was 3 or 4 months old. She's fine-they did no treatment except keep her in a mostly dark room until the infection cleared up. Maybe it was the mumps? Something to do with it was in her eyes and could have caused blindess I think. Now my other sister is only a few years older than her, so I suppose could have gotten her measles vax and she got it from that? Don't know.

Being kept in the dark, yes, that is measles. A dose of vitamin A is good to do at that time.

my family's experience of measles in the 60s was very much like the brady bunch - including doc home visits, but without parents running around doing our bidding

Yup...That's why I posted this episode of the Brady Bunch. To show that silly episode of Private practice is ridiculous! MT Im sorry you can't watch it! Interestingly enough my friend found this info:
http://www.learcenter.org/html/projects/?cm=hhs/sentinel

The Sentinel for Health Awards were developed by the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC) to recognize exemplary achievements of TV writers who inform,
educate and motivate viewers to make choices for healthier and safer lives through their
storytelling.

and....

The Awards are administered by Hollywood, Health & Society (HH&S), a project of the USC
Annenberg Norman Lear Center, and is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC). Hollywood, Health & Society serves as a one-stop-shop for writers, producers
and others in search of credible information on a wide range of public health topics

Geez, even TV is not immune to the clutches of the CDC :eyeroll:

Yeah, they used to have TV script ideas available on the CDC web-site. Don't know if they are still there.

CDC is the military, and yes, their tentacles spread far and wide.

The only thing I have to add to the Brady Bunch which was the oldest all over,... is projectile vomitting at the start, for the youngest, and his ear infection, which lead to a painless ruptured ear drum, the smell of which he said was "steenky feesh"...
