I'm trying to get ready for pregnancy and to hopefully cure some of my issues (especially gut/yeast). I found a Integrative MD that is contracted with my insurance and I was very hopeful she could help me but now I'm not so sure. My labs came back and the nurse called to say they were "normal". I'm waiting for my CDSA stool test results and will be doing a endocrine saliva test (includes adrenals, other hormones, as well as some others like GABA..here's a link in case anyone is interested https://www.neurorelief.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=404.
I would really appreciate any insight you might be able to give. My biggest worry is why my ferritin isn't coming up despite supplementing with MegaFoods Blood Builder(100% wholefood vitamin), and Floradix. I weaned off my T3 about 2 months before this test, but before I was on 30mcg of T3. I forgot to make sure she tested RT3, but it appears my thyroid is better since I stopped the T3. I take 5 Isocort a day. I take a b-complex (not always everyday), it's the Soloray B-50. I take CLO everyday, alternating between Nordic Naturals and Fermented CLO by Green Pastures with Butter Oil. Since my last test I started taking Vit. D pills and it appears to have helped.
Please take a look and tell me what you think..
Here are the New and Old Labs. NEW labs are on the left in "" and OLD is on the right. Thanks!!

I would really love some help. I feel a little lost here. I will
post my stool results when I get them (should be soon), and my saliva test when I can take it (waiting for Isocort to be outta my system).
Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to get ready for pregnancy and to hopefully cure some of my issues (especially gut/yeast). Gut/yeast might not show up to much in these tests, so much as stool tests for gut dysbiosis.

I will take the ones that mean something to me out of the ones above.

I would really appreciate any insight you might be able to give. My biggest worry is why my ferritin isn't coming up despite supplementing with MegaFoods Blood Builder(100% wholefood vitamin), and Floradix. Because in some people, iron is far more sensitive to vitamin C and other related minerals. The fact that vitamin B's haven't helped tells me that you can come off them.

I weaned off my T3 about 2 months before this test, but before I was on 30mcg of T3. I forgot to make sure she tested RT3, but it appears my thyroid is better since I stopped the T3. I take 5 Isocort a day. Can you explain the history of this.

I take a b-complex (not always everyday), it's the Soloray B-50. ... Hmmm... I think I'd toss it.

*SEGS------------------"46.5Low"------No Old----------50.0-75.0
*Lymphs---------------"48.2High"-----No Old----------20.0-44.0 You may have had a low grade infection at the time.

MAGNESIUM------------"No New"--------1.8------------1.7-2.8
MAGNESIUM RBC--------"2.25"--------NO OLD---------1.65-2.65The first is low and the second is not, but RBC is only a good indication of what you've eaten recently, not what is going on in your body as a whole. I'm underwhelmed by Mag WBC tests.

POTASSIUM----------------"3.9"---------3.6-----------3.5-5.5
CHLORIDE-----------------"106"---------103-----------95-108

Okay, your potassium is on the low end of normal, and your chlorides on the high end, which indicates to me that the first magnesium reading, might be more relevant. Magnesium "opens" up the cell wall to potassium, so if your cellular magnesium is low, potassium won't get in fully, and will be excreted...

your liver is doing just fine.

FERRITIN-----------------------"14"------------22---------------10-295Yeah, well you have your nose above water there. ;)

VITAMIN B12-------------------"745"----------1190*HIGH------210-925
FOLIC ACID (FOLATE)-----"19.48*HIGH"----19.58*HIGH------2.60-16.00 Yup, toss these. You are going nowhere fast having these levels high.

VITAMIN D, 25 HYDROXY-"54.1"-------------29.5*LOW--------31-100
10-30=VITAMIN D INSUFFIENCY54.1 is okay. 80 would be better.

FREE T4------------"1.13"---------1.12-----------0.80-1.80
FREE T3------------"2.6"----------2.4-------------2.3-4.2
TSH, 3RD GEN-------"0.933"--------0.114*LOW-------0.350-5.50
T3 TOTAL-----------"NO NEW"-------69.0*EXTRA LOW--80.0-200.0
(results confirmed by repeat analysis)
REVERSE T3---------"NO NEW"-------548*HIGH---------90-350I need the history on this.

I'm inclined to think that most everything in terms of vitamins and minerals is "relatively" okay. That said, I'd be making every attempt to eat mineral high fruits and vegetables and hope that a wide variety will regulate the potassium/magnesium correctly, and bring the ferritin levels up a bit more.

:giggle:having said that, I never got on top of my low ferritin, until Aunt Flow took a permanent holiday.

the problem with looking at tests, is that it's in isolation of history, so it would be helpful to know what you see as issues, and why.

Momtezuma,
Thanks for taking the time to look this over. I don't know how to multi-quote so please bear with me.

**Do you think I should stay off B's completely because they don't appear to be working on the iron and because my folate and B12 are high, or should I switch brands? This is another brand I was looking at that is made from 100% whole foods http://www.megafood.com/products/dailyfoods/balanced_b_complex.php
And here's the link to the facts http://www.megafood.com/products/dailyfoods/balanced_b_complex_facts.php

**As for my thyroid situation I was on T3 for about a year. My labs weren't horrible in terms of a doctors perspective but my naturopath put me on them as a trial and slowly we upped them to 30mcg a day, but then I saw an endo in July of 2008 in preparing for oral surgery who told me that I was on too much and to wean off them; that the T3 was causing my anxiety. So I slowly weaned off and haven't noticed a negative difference. My anxiety has gotten better though, except fpr one panic attack on Thanksgiving(in-laws house ;)). Here are some of my older thyroid and adrenal labs...

Decemebr 2006 (NO MEDS)
WESTCLIFF LABS
TSH 1.069 (Range 0.350-5.50)
FT4 0.99 (Range 0.80-1.80)
FT3 2.7 (Range 2.3-4.2)

July 2007 (NO MEDS)
WESTCLIFF LABS
TSH 2.894 (03.50-5.50)
FT3 2.4 (2.3-4.2)

November 2007 (ON ADRENALS, IODORAL, MAYBE T3 MEDS BUT JUST STARTED IF SO)
QUEST LABS
TSH 2.18 (0.40-4.50)
FT3 2.46 (2.30-4.20)

March 2008 (ON ISOCORT, IODORAL AND T3, BUT STOPPED ADRENAL FOR 4 WEEKS
BEFORE TEST)
ZRT-BLOODSPOT
TSH 0.7 (0.5-3.0)
FT4 1.0 (0.7-2.5)
FT3 1.9 (2.5-6.5)

ADRENAL LABS...
My older labs from July 2007 are on the left with "quotation marks around them". The newer labs from March of 2008 are to the right of the old ones and have **stars** around them. Then after that is the ranges.

Hormone Test "6/29/2007" **3/14/2008** Units Range
-Estradiol (saliva) "1.7 Ok" **1.8 Ok** pg/ml 1.3-3.3
-Progesterone (saliva) "63 L" **49 L** pg/ml 75-270
-Ratio: Pg/E2 (saliva) "37 L" **27 L** Optimal: 100-500 when E2 1.3-
-Testosterone (saliva) "43 Ok" **31 Ok** pg/ml 16-55
-DHEAS (saliva) "3.7 Ok" **5.5 Ok** ng/ml 2-23
-Cortisol Morning (saliva) "3.4 L" **7.8 Ok** ng/ml 3.7-9.5
-Cortisol Noon (saliva)"no old" **0.8 L** ng/ml 1.2-3.0
-Cortisol Evening (saliva)"no old" **1.9 Ok** ng/ml 0.6-1.9
-Cortisol Night (saliva) "0.1 L" **0.3 L** ng/ml 0.4-1.0

**On older tests I have(December 2006) my Segs and Lymphs were this way, could this mean something else than a low grade infection?

**Do you think I should increase my magnesium? I take a mag. citrate (Natural Calm)?
**Also, I don't eat much if any dairy, do you think I should supplement with calcium?

**And as far as supplements go I was looking at one of these two in preparing for pregnancy, what do you think?

If I were in your situation.... I would go off the B's completely. and I would stay off the thyroids as well.

the hormone tests only mean anything, if you know what part of the cycle they were taken in, and the circumstances before they were taken. Otherwise those tests can mean anything... or nothing.

I could only answer the question about segs and lymphs if I had your full record to view, and knew the clinical situation at the time. Generally I only deal with the past if every test for the past 10 years was the same. So for me, ever since I was diagnosed with an immunodeficiency, the tests have always come back normally abnormal, so I've stopped doing them now.

I take extra magnesium, because I know I need it.

No, I don't think we need to supplement on calcium. We get far too much of it in our diets anyway. most Western people don't get enough magnesium, boron, silica... and if in a country like NZ, selenium. But most of those can be got from food, if you know what to look for, and if it's organic, or you grow it yourself.

You could take a mineral supplement, but in general, I don't like taking minerals out of their natural context unless its necessary.

For me that is necessary when it come to vitamin C, magnesium, and fish oils with the occasional other mineral thrown in.

If you live near the sea, and it's relatively clean, and safe, then go and sit in seawater regularly.

How do you feel about adrenal support? I'm temporarily off my Isocort to retest my adrenals and wondering about taking them again at possibly a lesser dose, and hopefully weaning off them. I do feel the difference of not being on them though, I'm more reactive, much more emotionally reactive, and having more trouble falling and staying asleep.

Question: I stopped my Isocort to retest my adrenals and wondering if I should do it, or skip the test and save the money. I have been on Isocort for almost 2 years and my last test showed I was improving, although my progesterone was a little low as was my DHEA's. But with planning on trying to conceive in 4 months I'm not sure if this test is worth it. It also tests amino acids.
What do you think?
Here's what it tests (it's a saliva/urine test):
Estrone, Estradiol, Progesterone, Testosterone,
DHT, DHEA, Cortisolx4, Epinephrine, Norepenephrine, Dopamine, DOPAC,
Serotonin, 5-HIAA, Glycine, Taurine, GABA, Glutamate, PEA, Histamine,
Creatinine.

The problem is that I don't know why you went onto Isocort in the first place; what your general health problems are, or why you think your adrenals started to get messed up in the first place.

All you've done is put test results up, and often, test results can be either downright misleading, or even irrelevant.

Talking "tests", out of context of the person, and their history, isn't a good idea, so perhaps if you tell us what the issues are, other than gut/yeast, ferritin, and questionmark thyroid, we might be in a better position to comment.

Also, once you go onto these products, which replace a natural function of a gland, the gland can fold it's arms and take a holiday. That's fine if the bodily function has resigned anyway, but if it hasn't then a crutch can be counter productive. Coming off a glandular, might or might not switch on the gland again. Certainly it will take the gland some time to get into smooth mode again...

To me, it's a whole lot better to look at a person, what their history is, where the problems might have started, and then deal with the roots of the problem. I'm not one to throw a supplement at somthing for the sake of it, when the issue might be far more basic that that.

So what I need to know from you is a bit of your history, and also what you eat, and you have to be honest about that.

Worry is the worst sin a trying to conceive mother can indulge in. It's a sin I know all about, and I do keep my french rolling pin on hand to deliver the necessary antidote :p

Sorry about the delay in responding, I didn't see your reply till now.
I went on the Isocort back in 2007 from the advice of my old naturopath, based on saliva test results. She also put me on thyroid for a while which I recently weaned off of.
History:
I have fought anemia from when I was itty bitty (labs show this). As a child I was sick a lot. Lots of bronchitis, 1 case of pneumonia, lots of tummy troubles, and fatigue; and of course lots of antibiotics(the strong ones). As I got older they got worse, but then again so did my diet. As a teenager I rebelled against a verbally and sometimes physically abusive father, by drinking every night and doing other naughty things. This started at age 14 and went on till I was 18. The drinking calmed down after 18, but when I did drink, which was about every weekend, I drank a lot, many times till I blacked out. My whole life I have fought chronic fatigue, stomach issues, brain fog, itchy ears, little warts on my legs, anxiety, self-doubt, low confidence, and other little problems. I used to get really bad migraines, but they rarely come now. One time I got dizzy out of no-where, the kind that wouldn't stop and ended up in the hospital, with no answer as to why. I figured it was stress. I had a sleep study and lots of neurology testing done with no revelaing info. Many doctors have tried to put me on antidepressants, which I refused. A doc back in 2005 told me I am developing an autoimmune condition but couldn't help me any further so she sent me to an endo which didn't help.
I now know I had a leaky gut/yeast all my life, and my adrenals have been shot by all the stress of family life. My biggest issues now are the fatigue and brain fog. There are times when things are clearer and I have more energy, but it's rare and the brain fog makes me sad a lot. Not to mention hard to get things done. If I had to choose which one is more important I would definitely say the brain fog.
Diet: I was breastfed for maybe 1 month then bottle fed (my guess this is where the anemia started). My mother was a follow the Dr. type of person, so I'm sure I was rice fed at 4 months. I was told that when we were really little she fed us good food, but as we got older (from about 8) and my mom got busy we began eating a lot of fast food. I would skip breakfast (or eat sugary cereal), get a treat at recess, eat a cookie for lunch, and get french fries and a slurpy on my way home. This diet continued till I was about 16, then I began to cut out some of the fast food, although it was still there quite a bit. Around 20 I started to eat a little healthier, but it wasn't until before my daughter that I cut out most of the fast food. After I had her I dropped the wheat(sometimes sneaks in), fast food, and dairy(except butter). Now I eat mostly chicken with some beef (mostly organic/grassfed), very few grains which are soaked, veges (lots of green beans, broccoli, salads, etc), homemade chicken stock, some nuts and very few fruits. Every once in a great while I make oatmeal cookies with bananas and very little sugar and chocolate chips. I drink only water, except juice with my cod liver oil. As far as supplements I take 1 Isocort each day, the prenatal complex we discussed (New Chapter), an Iron supplement (megafoods; still have low ferritin despite supplementing, although it has gone up), vitamin D, calcium from eggshells, magnesium, vitamin c, probiotics, raw garlic, coconut oil, and maybe one or 2 others.
Hopefully this isn't info overkill, but I wanted to be thorough (although I'm sure I can add more). My doc just sent me my labs from my endocrine test along with some neuro-transmitters they tested which I will post in a bit.
Thanks again Momtezuma for all your help. I am getting better about the worrying and blaming myself. I am learning how to cook and making lots of trips to the farmers market. I feel I am slowly getting better, I just really need to get over the fatigue, brain fog, and sadness. Thanks again!
