My 10 month old son has had what I believe to be rotavirus for 9 days. He started last Tuesday with a fever and then two episodes of vomiting. His fever spiked overnight (I'm guessing about 40, but I didn't measure it) and by the next day was gone. Since then, he's had green diarrhea about 5 times per day. Two days ago it went back to its normal yellow, but then yesterday it returned to green. He's almost exclusively breastfed; he eats a tiny bit of food, but in this whole sickness period I haven't fed him. I did start giving him a bit of food a couple of days ago. Could that food (maybe a tablespoon?) have set him back?
His mood has been totally normal this whole time and he's continued to pee. At his well-baby visit yesterday, he had gained weight, but his trajectory showed a dip, so he's clearly not been gaining normally over the last week.
Then my daughter had a fever on this past Tuesday evening and night. It was at least 40 overnight and then she was basically fine yesterday. She claimed that her belly hurt, though. Then this morning she woke up and said she was all better. Then she proceeded to have two episodes of diarrhea. She is also breastfed, but only a tiny bit, as she's almost 4.
We are planning a trip to the Canary Islands beginning on Saturday. I'm getting a bit concerned about my baby's diarrhea not going away. Is there anything I can do? I'm imagining my daughter pooping her pants multiple times per day on holiday (although it's notable that my son's hasn't been urgent diarrhea -- we do EC and I've caught all of it, so he goes when given the opportunity).
Need I be concerned?
