Stevens-Johnson syndrome

Someone I know distantly has been admitted in the hospital diagnosed with SJS (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome) caused by sulfa antibiotics.

He is in bad shape for almost a week now, being given fluids IV. It seems Vioxx alongwith COX-2 inhibitor Bextra is known to cause SJS. So are some NSAIDs.

Does anyone have any more info on this. Seems to be a very deadly infection :(

Wow this is something I had never heard of... thanks for bringing it to my attention. I've been on the internet and been looking at all the sites with info and there seems to be many but none are very positive about outcomes. It's a serious and deadly condition. It makes me so angry.

Surely a detox programme would be the first thing that the drs would try? Or would that just make far too much sense?
