Beth's thumb appeared infected and I was afraid to lance it myself so I took her to the doctor. I noticed while I was there one of her little lumps that she gets from time to time since she was on the steroid. It was quite large and looked infected. I mentioned it to them....HUGE mistake.
They lanced both and cultured them. The didn't really get anything from her thumb but blood. I later got the pus out of her thumb after a good soak. The abscess on her hip came back as being a staph infection. I'm certain if I'd just used some Neosporin with a bandage on it, it would have gone away on its own. Now, they're going to push for antibiotics which is bad for her (yes, I know for any of us.) and I want to decline. But I need to know that I'm doing what I need to be doing for this to be the right decision. It seems to me that antibiotics are the 'easy way' and I want to know the right way.
A book I've been using indicates using Vitamin A for things like UTI's but I'm thinking it would be good in this sort of situation as well.
She's breastfed and due to a recent cold/flu, my Vitamin C has been between 8000 and 12000 mgs per day.
My tabs are beta carotene with 25,000 IU of Vitamin A and if I cut one open she seems to tolerate them. One thing I read mentioned 50,000 IU for two days and reducing from there but I think that was for a respiratory infection.
I'd like some good input on this or some direction to a book or place to gather the information of a better way to treat a staph infection.

One person I know uses a combination of hydrogen peroxide and something like neosporin. The principle is to keep cleaning the sore with the hydrogen peroxide and in between cleanings to keep it coated with the neosporin or equivalent. You do not want a scab to form.
I've never had this problem or treated anything this way, so this is very much third-hand. I'm going to ask the person who has done it if I can copy the post describing the technique and then I'll get back to you.

Since this board is so new, I jumped over to C2PP and read that topical treatment of staph is not effective in eliminating it but that I need to treat orally. I've been researching Grapefruit Seed Extract. Any thought or ideas about that? It just sounds like the miracle cure for many things which makes me quite curious.

Here is what my friend said she did:
We fought it off by using hydrogen peroxide every few hours and keeping it moist in the meantime with gobs of antibacterial goo stuff under a bandaid. Over here, it was pimplish-things-turned-ulcerous-type sores, and when it would scab over, it seemed the bacteria multiplied beneath the scab, so we used the neosporinish goo just to keep a scab from forming.
We kept it under control with hydrogen peroxide and goo and it quit popping up.
So apparently a topical approach can work if it is done right. Wouldn't hurt to add some supplements to the mix, of course.

I'm going to try that. I talked to the doctor and the fact that we have no fever and she's doing well means they won't be pushing antibiotics. So, I'll kick this before it comes to that.
I'm really checking out this Grapefruit Seed Extract.

Hey
go to my web page and show her the GSE this will knock out staph infection ...you can as well use the olive leaf you have growing there as well...by making a tea and then cutting it with water 1:1 in other words use 1 ounce of tea to 1 ounce of water
you can as well apply thuja on the wound this is an essential oil that will also knock this out topically.......you can as well do this ....add arginine with bay leaf tea
what you do is brew a baylef tea with added thyme and rosemary ....once brewed then again cut this 1:1 and then add 500mgs dose of arginine this will increase nitric oxide and will release the properties of all the herbs I just mentioned exponently and hit this quickly through out the body....
another thing to do is utilize that manuka honey and apply this topically...this should in fact create a healing and again can be utilized internally as well as externally.....How old is the child??? Make sure it is unpasteurized.... now again you can make an elixor and this is easy and can again be applied interbally for the child....if you need a tincture of thyme or bay leaf this can be quite strong so what you would need is brandy or vodka.....or if the tincture is 80-100% alcohol then the ther will not be required add 2 ounces of honey to this then add 1 table spoon of each tincture then whisk it with a whisker in the honey and it will liquify and then apply tsp dosages every hour....
another thing you can do is blend garlic with wine what you weill need is to take a bulb ( whole galic bulb ) and add wine to it till it is at least an inch over the garlic....blend it till it is purred and then strain it.....mix it in honey again 1 ounce of this to 2 ounces of honey liquify and administer
MAKE SURE the child is GETTING ZINC and IODINE without zinc there will be a more difficult task to remove this
Propolis again from the Bees will kncok this out add 1-4 drops in a tsp of either olive oil....liquified honey or a maple syrup or in a juice and adminster
topically make a cream ( go to www.youtube.com (http://www.youtube.com/) and then type in herbsplusbeadworks )there is a recipee on how to make this and apply it on just got word today that this cleared up an eczema infection today and it is a nice cream and easy to make
NO SOY
NO CANOLA OIL
NO SUGAR.\
NO RED MEAT
LAMB is aceptable as long as it is grass fed
SAME with POULTRY
USE JUICES SUCH as DANDELION, PARSELY, WATER CRESS
if you can not find thes then utilize what is indegenious there as a blood tonic or purifier
BEET juice and CARROT combo will assist this
ONION and APPLE sauce will also assist this
mush 1/2 onion to a whole apple ( peeled )....and then consume
Utilize papaya and cinnamon this will also release nitric oxide and the anti fungal anti bacterial effects of the cinnamon
Utilize PLAIN YOGURT with cinnamon and Clove ( use 1/8 tspoon of clove 1/2 tsp cinnamon )
any juice given will be a good combo apply 2 oranges and 1 lemon and juice together
if fruit is unsprayed then utilize skin as well in the juicing...if sprayed then peel before use
Give the child gelatin as a broth ( NO JELLO) this will restore the stomach as well as asssit the body to utilize the protein more efficiently and when combo'd with the orange /lemon juice will assis in restoring internal and external...when applied with the green juices this will increase assimilation of the nutrients
Hope this helps

http://augmentinforce.50webs.com (http://augmentinforce.50webs.com/) go to Enzyme Coconut ( this will knock out any staph )
herbs of the day and look at Bay leaf and onion and apple look at Sprouts and Ascorbic acid and check GSE and H2O2
and go to www.youtube.com (http://www.youtube.com/) and then type in herbsplusbeadworks and then look up green veg making . healing creams and the recipe for seed milk
Hope this helps Sarah

When my #3 child was 7 days old she got a staph infection in her groin. I didnt treat it, just kept the area clean and it went away on its own, but they pushed ABs on us and I took them and put them in the fridge but never gave them to her. That could be an option maybe? If you take them and then biff them and that way you dont have to try and fight the system.

I will do that but because of her particular overall health I hestate to not be on the same page. Last time I discontinued treatment I did not tell them.
Any thoughts on if it comes back as not just staph but MRSA?

...usually through his ramblings gets it spot on.
So, it's not just me, he is kind of hard to follow?
I'm going to try to decipher that but he gave so many instructions for different things to do. Is that to say I should do them all or just find something that seems like I can manage?
One key things is she is with her disorder she doesn't metabolize the same as most. On top of that I have a difficulty administering large amounts orally. She is exclusively bf'd and is very difficult about even consuming food. To administer large amounts of liquid would have to be done by syringe taking quite a long time.
I'll start weeding through his information and go from there. Thanks and I really appreciate any and all help.

No I think the Key is he gives all the things he knows to help and you have to do some work yourself as to what will work for her...
If you want to talk to him directly with your details etc of her health history just PM me and I will pass on his details.
If it were me from what he has said... Manuka honey and GSE should be the best and most simple options.
How is her hip and general health today??

Her hip doesn't seem to be changing for better or worse. I didn't know not to let it scab and nothing seems to penetrate the scab. I'm not sure if my peroxide is potent and I haven't gone over his suggestions yet.
Her general health has been great. In fact, extra energetic but I think that's the vit d kicking in.
I'm very excited to share that her doctor is letting me take point on the abx decision. Not that I'd listen to her if I didn't want to, but at least we're on the same page. I'm wondering if I should lance it again for better penetration to the infection. We might talk Grandma into a good soak in her sink while we're over there for dinner.
Thanks for you help. I nearly missed your response.

If you are going to soak it, use epsom salts, or magnesium sulphate in the water. You can also use magnesium sulphate paste to draw out stuff.
I wouldn't do most of what Mag 1's man said. It's overkill. but copy and paste it, and file it, because the options are worth reading up on, so that you know what can be done in certain circumstances.
Hydrogen peroxide is the ultimate in bacterial killer and essentially does the same thing as Nitrous Oxide anyway....

We fought and won, antibiotic free.
We started with baking soda soaks because I didn't have Epsom salts yet. Then cleaned with hydrogen peroxide, and coated with something similar to Neosporin. The doctors describe it as the amped up version of Neosporin.
After a bit of running around to obtain more supplies we transitioned to Epsom salt soaks, followed by cleaning with hydrogen peroxide. Then dab on some Tea Tree Oil, followed by a slather of Golden Salve, and then on with the bandage. (The guy at the store wavered between Golden Salve and Black Salve. He seemed to be most interested in the Black Walnut Hulls in them.) Very shortly her abscess began to ooze a dark creamy red. And slowly but surely, the lump became smaller and smaller. At the first visit after it started to shrink the doctors were happy enough to not push antibiotics and the next check declared it gone.
To me it still feels like there's a small lump in there, so if anyone has some insight about that, I'd appreciate it, but in the meantime, I restarted treatment to be safe.
Also, I learned from this experience which is the good natural store and the not as good one. When I went into each of them and said staph, the one had no idea nor did they know what drawing salve was. They were more like an extensive vitamin store and a bit afraid of suggesting anything that countered modern medicine. The other store jumped right in and knew that she could be treated and several ways to do it. In fact, the owner is a Doctor of Naturopathy.
