I recently came across this book at my son’s kindy, It’s called Care of Children from one to Five. Author Dr John Gibbens.
He wrote about measles “It is much better to have the disease and get it over when you are young than begin school and have to go into quarantine” Also:
“Fit Children are rarely ill with measles. They get over it quickly, their general health is little upset, they jiggle about happily in bed and play with their toys and seem quite unconcerned. Immunisation is not without risk and should be reserved for the few children who are (the page is ripped here) ...to whom measles as an extra burden might (page ripped) It’s an old book but you get the message. 1950 in think.

I can’t believe a doctor would say this, I was amazed. Today’s doctor would have you think that we are all doomed without the MMr let alone ‘jiggle about happily in bed”
I just wanted to share this with everyone. Bring back the good old days – What do you think? :giggle:

I'm thinking of putting up some scanned pages from old medical books about various childhood illnesses -- perhaps on insidevaccines -- so if you get a chance, please scan that page in and then I'll arrange to upload it or something. And if anyone else has old medical home care books from the 1970s or earlier, look up chickenpox, look up mumps, let us know what you find.

Justine, that book was published in 1943 onwards... (I checked at Abebooks.com) but there were over six editions, so your one might be later. The measels vaccine didnt' come in until 1963, so perhaps your edition is a much later one?

If it's a purple and yellow cover, that's a 1961 edition...
