Any idea how one would remove them from dreadlocks??
I've got an essential oil preparation but I'm wondering how you'd get around combing the eggs out?

No experience with dreads but when dd#1 was about 14, she had waist length curly hair & got lice. The chemicals didn't work so we did essential oils ( aniseed, manuka & eucalyptus ) plus using vinegar & a few drops of eucalyptus in the rinse. She never used the lice comb & they never came back. The vinegar helps unstick the lice egg glue but I think you just need to wait for them to drop off, if you don't comb, as they are dead anyways. I would say tho the key is to use an EO combination which actually works not one where combing is an important part of the treatment.

I have read that neem oil mixed with little castor oil helps kill the lice and the eggs. Getting rid of the castor oil is tough I guess but try a little more neem oil and see if it helps.

10 drops Geranium Oil
15 drops Lavender Oil
15 drops Rosemary Oil
Add the above to 50ml Apricot Kernel Oil & shake to mix well.
Massage into dry scalp, leave for 2 hours before washing hair. As = incubation period is 21 days, repeat treatments are required.=20
PREVENTATIVE SPRAY:
Pour 50ml water into spray bottle.
Add 3 drops Sunspirit Soluabalizer
6 drops Bergamot Oil
6 drops Lavender Oil
6 drops lemon Oil
Shake and spray onto dry hair.
PREVENTATIVE OIL:
10 drops Bergamot Oil
10 drops Lavender Oil
10 drops Lemon Oil
Add to 50ml Apricot Kernel Oil
Shake & massage into dry scalp. Leave for 2 hours before hair is wet. = Small amount can be left in hair. Smell is not too bad and oils good for = hair.=20 Apply once a week for 3 weeks.
We find the combination of TREATMENT BLEND OIL & PREVENTATIVE OIL (1&3) = easiest to use

we have had a lot of success with neem oil. it really works!
it disrupts the cycle so eggs do not become lice and lice cannot reproduce...
you can add it to shampoo, conditioner - actually I added quite a lot to conditioner and put it on my ds head and just left it on, even to coconut oil you can add it.
I don't remember the exact amounts but you can also add it to a spray bottle with other essential oils and spray it on bedding, furnature etc; helps to break the cycle.
i don't know about not combing.....it is highly recomended, although my teen dd's have very long hair and when we came back to the U.S. after a summer in another country full of lice...they didn't do a great job of combing but still got rid of the lice.
funny thing, my then youngest son who was 4 and had the least amount of hair took the longest to get rid of the lice......he also had the most:giggle:
even now, when i remember, i add afew drops of neem oil to the shampoos that my daughters buy....

hi gilima. glad to see you on here!
Dreads are a tough one. I know lots of people use henna or cassia obovata. I never had lice, but I've used those for years and I like what they do for my hair. The problem for some with dreads will be rinsing all of it out.
