OK, so we eat Borscht probably once a week around here and in the past have not noticed our wee turning red (although #2 do). I have read int eh past about wee turning red is not "normal" and something to do with the body lacking an enzyme to break it down or something similar.

Anyway, googling hasn't turned up much for me except to say that a small percentage of the population have this problem. So is it a "problem" or just something that can happen?

The only reason i'm wondering is that it happened to both DS and myself when it hasn't happened before now so i'm wondering if our GAPS diet is causing it? If it were only DS I'd probably wonder if it was his kidneys or coeliacs. Didn't get to see DD's wee and she never mentioned it, so can't use her in our analysis since she's on the same diet too.

Any thoughts?

No idea. Usually beetroot juice makes my 2's go purplish..

Funny that

I've always pondered on why my number 2s go red but my wees are still normal... always marvelled at it!! :giggle:

I wonder why it happened to both of you? Perhaps a spraying issue? Were they canned or fresh?

No idea really. The beetroot were fresh and organic and cooked up the same as usual.

I thought it was normal for #1 and 2s to go a little red after eating beetroot. Happens with me and DD always.

Consulted with a professional for you...

could be a combo of the acetates and the oxalates coming out with the iron ....tell them to definitely increase the Vitamin C with this so it will absorb the iron content properly or else this will cause crystalization in the kidneys

hmmm.....I cooked up a lot of beets last week and have been eating them all week, my wee is slightly pinker but not red and I don't know about other family members.. I will ask. I just thought it was normal....
now Iam starting to wonder what it really means.....something else to look into.

what's this about oxolates and iron???

I seem to recall reading somewhere that vitamin c can cause oxolates in some people.....

now I'm even more confused:confused:.....
I just read somewhere that turning the wee pink /red is a sign of low stomach acid.....

One way to find out. Do a few days of cider vinegar, then try again... and maybe even use a vinegar oil dressing...
