View Full Version : Oh but they would have got it much worse if they weren't??
So your child is vaccinated and they then catch the very disease they are vaccinated against , do they get the disease to a lesser extent, a milder version?
A freind of mine who vaccinates, her daughter got mumps and she said 'she would have got it much worse if she wasn't vaccinated'. Hmmm..
How true is this ? Or is it total BS ?
I'm still getting through your books Hilary if it's in there please let me know ;)

That is what the medical community will tell you. I know several children who were fully vaccinated for pertussis and had it very badly, so I think to make a blanket statement like that is BS. I think how badly any disease effects a child has to do with their immune system vaccinated or not. Although I have also read a few journal artcles (sorry do not have link, I didn't bookmark them) that measles in vaccinated children may be milder.

Ask her about 'herd immunity' then? If she still got it, how is she supposedly doing her job of protecting those around her who cannot be vaxed...the 'herd immunity' card that everyone loves to play!
In some cases it may be a mild case but then the same can be said of a healthy, unvaxed child. The argument works both ways IMO.

Our unvaccinated children got chickenpox far less severely than our vaccinated grandchildren. When the mother said that, "had they not been vaccinated they might have died" I :snort: nearly wet my pants.

:giggle: I've heard quite a few people say that exact same comment. I'm always like "what the?".
It's definitely a blanket comment for people to say that vaxed children get a "milder case" of the disease. Unvaxed children can have mild cases too
On a side note...Hilary, you have vaxed grandchildren? Gosh, that must have been hard for you to deal with.

I believe they are known as memes which are a mental virus for the mind that get passed on and repeated till they are believed and accepted by and large.
Of course we are immune to these mental viruses here.
Uh. My favorite. So when I was 29, I nearly died of whooping cough. Or should I say I nearly died of stupid antibiotics I was taking as I had zero idea of what else to do about it. I was fully vaccinated with wholecell DPT as a child. Actually I had this same cough, which is hard to miss, a number of times throughout my childhood, in case someone decides to say that my vaccines wore off by 29, only every time it was diagnosed as something else. Something else with a classic whoop.
So. I had pertussis and I had it bad, lasted 8 months. My unvaccinated seven year old child in close contact never coughed once in that year. Why is that? Oh yes, I must have contracted it from him and he was protected by herd immunity. :LMAO:And I wasn't. Neither were 90% of his class two years later of which only 3 students didn't get it, which again included my totally unvaccinated kid who never had whooping cough to the best of my knowledge as yet - he is now 19. I guess had I not been vaccinated I would have been coughing for the next 20 years.
Hmm... had I vaccinated him, would he have been any better off? That's a tough one. :giggle::rolleyes:

I'm unvaxed and never got whooping cough (visibly). As children none of the five of us ever got it (visibly). And we weren't vaxed.

That was the funniest post I've read for a long time Spy.
Miriam, I don't invest emotional energy into something I can do nothing about.
