View Full Version : Great-Grandmother's remedy for flu
I just came across this in my old still book which I copied from my Nanna's still book which she got from her mother. I'm wondering if there is something to it? I've never used the remedy myself.
1 clove garlic
A few slices of ginger
1 tsp honey
1 tbs lemon juice
Hot water
Mince up garlic and ginger finely and crush in a cup. Add honey and lemon juice, then add hot water. Drink.

Sounds good to me! They're all good things that I load us up on just for regular colds or illnesses so would certainly use them for a flu.

i'd add cayenne into that. Make it into decent rocket fuel.
Another thing I take if I'm stuffed up is wasabi. Makes everything water really efficiently.

We called it a hot toddy (I think) when I was growing up and also added a shot of brandy.... I think the brandy was a South African addition

I second that, cayenne pepper helps other herbs work better as well as being mighty good in itself.

I read it and the first thing I thought was add cayenne.... MT beat me too it....Add about a 1/8 teaspoon.
One drop of peppermint essential oil in there would be good too. I would make it into more of a shot than a big mug full. Get it in quick.
