I get this weird rash on each side of my torso during the winter months, I get it every year.
It almost looks like eczema, it is very very itchy and on really cold nights can be actually quite sore, like burning almost and my clothes against it feel like sandpaper.
I've no idea what it is caused by and when Ive mentioned it to my doc in the past he just prescribes a cortisone. I'm breastfeeding so I don't want to use that. I don't like to use it anyway.

Anyone else had this or something similar ? Used any successful treatments ?

Yes! Me (I think)! Only I used to get it on my tummy and only in winter (but really bad while pregnant and a few years after, but not last or this winter). I've been doing research into the various skin issues our family has. I was surprised with the name of it since it doesn't look like other versions (I knew we had keratosis pilaris), but does yours look like this (http://images.google.co.nz/imgres?imgurl=http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/constructicle/photo_f1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.keratosispilariscure.com/&usg=__a2eBALmH50pKJgNxi_-nEgSNeks=&h=336&w=250&sz=19&hl=en&start=4&um=1&tbnid=Q39fc-V8qQZRdM:&tbnh=119&tbnw=89&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dkeratosis%2Bpilaris%2Bstomach%26hl%3D en%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1)(the stomach picture which to me looks WAY more inflamed and nasty than the other KP but is like what I had - the lower part of the rash?).

My son gets the rubra faceii version (facial) and the rest of us get it either on legs or arms (not the goose skin look though, more inflamed) and then I got the stomach one.

I've been rubbing coconut oil on ds's face and arms as an experiment. Seems less red and the bumps kind of look like they are flaking off. Hilary suggested Vit A deficiency when I was asking about KP a while back as a possible cause (but we eat a lot of Vit A and know that DS is sufficient).

Aha! Thanks for that link. :)
Yes mine looks like the one in the picture ! -Keratosis Pilaris on Stomach.
Only not as severe as that and in smaller patches.

It makes a lot of sense that it occurs during the winter months when the skin dries out.
I really enjoy a lovely hot shower in winter but I find it aggravates it so much.
That's awful your son gets it on his face :(

It's not pleasant at all. Interesting that it is so common
