Is itching the only sign? Does itching automatically mean worms? How would you treat for them naturally so that if it isn't worms then no harm done?

I'm not sure of symptoms but I noticed one in 3yo's poo and started wormwood for all of us, and saw more and more worms as the wormwood expelled the worms from 3yo's body. At first there was just one worm type but there appears to be 2 coming out. I havent identified the bigger one yet which bothers me a lot! The other is pinworm.

- crushed pumpkin seeds in honey/milk
- wormwood and black walnut
- practictioner stuff from Metagenics that are high potency are Parex and Costat (natural)
- there are milder formulas in health food shops - Triplex, um and Vittakelenz or something like that, not sure on the spelling.

Oh, have been thinking about this.

I feel really dense, but I have never treated my kids for worms, yet hear of others saying it is really important to regularly. Thoughts?

I did actually buy the Malcolm Harker one once (in fact it's still in my fridge) but it's really foul and I can't imagine trying to get it into them just atm (while I'm poking all sorts of other things in lol). It has black walnut, clove and wormwood.

Just resurrecting this as I'm thinking that worms is definitely an issue. So would I have to treat the whole family? What about 6 month old DD? I think I might get the Malcolm Harker stuff as I know his tonics are brilliant and my health shop stocks it. Is it safe for me to take while breastfeeding?

I'e just treated our family on MH worm stuff (apparently it's renamed now to Formula something). The bottle says you an treat babies and has the dosage for them opposed to hild dose. It says it may slow latation. I didn't find it yuk to take this time, quite liked the spiiness of it (I put the kids dosage in a little ranberry juie - not sure if it's preferable or not, but they wouldn't hae taken it straight otherwise).

Sorry, keys missing on keyboard.

Was just about to Say Malcolm Harkers Verm-Xpel... get over the taste! It's bitter for a reason. :) I know he has had to re brand alot of his products so don't know what it is called now.

Does it work for critters like pin worm? I have no idea, I use it as a spring clean rather than a tonic for worms, if that makes sense?

I have been told by a woman working in a pharmacy that you should drench your children every 3 months. I nodded & smiled & thought $$$ I probably should do my kids at some stage as pin worms are highly contagious & I know one of the kids at kindy with dd#3 has had them. As to what I will use, I don't know. I had an incredibly embarassing incident once when I drenched a horse with a supposedly independantly tested herbal drench. 2 months later, it colicked. I called out the vet who was very rude to me about it as it was worms which had caused the colic. Thankfully I called the vet in time & the horse survived but I have to say, I use ivermectin now as I am not keen to ever repeat that incident. This is pretty much my only use of a pharmaceutical product. If I had more land & could cross graze the horses with sheep & get worm egg counts done, I would probably go that route. I do know a woman who does fecal egg counts on horse poo & she did one on a horse which was run organically. I think the count should be under 100 & it was 2000. Said horse colicked badly & died shortly afterwards. All this makes me a bit nervous about trusting herbal wormers. There was a long & controversial thread on MDC about worms in health & healing I think which makes good reading. I think there is way more to it that just drug X or herb X kills worms & they go away.

You wonder how we all managed in the past BUT... I recognise that was in the days when people's fibre in their diet was so high that when it comes to the intestine, few parasites would have a foothold with hard core brooms sweeping down daily.

Maybe its eating diet with no brooms, that has resulted in making intestinal parasites the subject of such attention. I couldn't have given a toss about worms... our youngest got threadworms, we dealt with it, but their fibre levels were high... so no. I never drenched, and the thought of doing so to me isn't on the list of needs.

:o Yep. Itchy. Not all the time though. I put it down to my skin issues actually but I'm now thinking maybe not?

DS1 seems to be itchy a bit too.....
